Lemeh42 was born in 1978 in a small country town in the center of Italy. After a scientific degree, he moved in 1997 to Bologna, where he enrolled in the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures. In 2000 he spent several months in London where approached photography. In 2003 he graduated with a thesis on the poetry of the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas presenting a video work made with photographs. In the same year he won the prize for the best portfolio at Savignano Immagine that allowed him, the following year, to participate to the Toscana Photograhic Workshop with Michael Ackerman. In 2006, thanks to “I know you are but what am I” was invited to Paris by Pépinières Européennes pour Jeunes Artistes at the Nuit Européenne pour la Jeune Creation. Also in 2006 he was invited by Marisa Vescovo at Serrone International Biennale of emerging artists in Monza. In the following years his video works were selected and awarded in many festivals of video art. In 2009 he won the Premio Iceberg in Bologna and from the same year L’Ariete artecontemporanea became his reference gallery for Italy. From 2009 until now his animations, paintings and drawings have been showcased in personal and collective exhibition in Italy and abroad. In Italy he has collaborated with art critics and art curators such as Eleonora Frattarolo, Martina Cavallarin and Eli Sassoli De Bianchi. In 2017 he has been invited to take part at the Venice Biennale as part of the Modus exhibition curated by Eleonora Frattarolo and Martina Cavallarin.

In my work I love to subvert the rules of the game.
In my animations I do not limit myself to just tell stories. I work with the firm intent to deconstruct the narrative form of the medium trapped between one frame and the next one. I want to throw off the expectations of the viewer’s eye. I don’t tolerate that a scene advances the next one. I want that every scene would be autonomous and at the same time conceptually linked to the following one. In my most recent works, such as drawings, the work, because of it is based on a delicate and unstable balance between creation and destruction, the sign and its erasure, contains its own creative process that acquires to the viewer’s eyes a disruptive force. Or as in my graffiti on glass, in which the paint, violently removed, leaves signs, erasures that become traits that give life to an image generated by its own negation. I like to push the medium and the technique I’m using to its intrinsic limit, push it to the breaking point to bring out the maximum expressiveness, only in this way there is true creation.
